Dexter is an American television drama that debuted on Showtime on 1 October 2006. The sixth season created October 2, 2011. The series focuses on Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a bloodstain analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who lights the moon as a serial killer. Set in Miami, was the first season of the series largely based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, the first of his novels series Dexter. Subsequent seasons have evolved independently of Lindsay's work, based on several short stories by a friend of Lindsay, Stephen R. Pastore. It was adapted for television by screenwriter James Manos Jr., who wrote the first episode.

In February 2008, syndicated reruns (edited to TV-14 rating), has begun to air in CBS. Series has enjoyed wide critical acclaim and popularity. Season 4 aired its season finale Dec. 13, 2009 reached a record crowd of 2.6 million viewers, making it the most watched episode of the Showtime original series ever. Michael C. Hall has received several awards and nominations for his portrayal of Dexter, as the Golden Globe. Showtime picked up the series for the sixth season, which was not advertised in the final season, when opportunities in the seventh. Michael C. Hall, is negotiating his contract with Showtime to bring his seventh season salary. 18. November 2011 reported that Dexter has been revised for the seventh and eighth seasons.
